Buy iPhone 17 Pro: Coming from an Older Pro? Here's What Changes
- Zoom: The new 48 MP telephoto reaches 8x optical-quality zoom, far beyond the 3x on the iPhone 13 and 14 Pro.
- All-48 MP cameras: Main, ultra-wide and telephoto all use 48 MP sensors, so detail stays consistent whichever lens you pick.
- Selfies: The 18 MP Center Stage front camera automatically widens the frame when friends squeeze in.
- Brightness: The display peaks at 3,000 nits outdoors, much easier to read in summer sun.
- Charging: Reach 50% in around 20 minutes with a 40 W adapter.
- Connector: USB-C replaces Lightning if you're upgrading from an iPhone 14 Pro or earlier.
A Redesigned Pro Built to Stay Cool
Apple rethought the Pro design for this generation. Titanium is out, and an aluminium unibody with a built-in vapour chamber is in. It isn't just a style change. The new structure moves heat away from the A19 Pro chip more efficiently, so performance holds steady during long gaming sessions, video exports or extended 4K recording, when older phones start to slow down.
Filming Like a Pro
For video, the iPhone 17 Pro is one of the most capable phones you can buy. It records 4K at up to 120 fps in Dolby Vision for silky slow motion. With 256 GB as the starting capacity, you have room to shoot without constantly offloading clips. Content creators can step up to 512 GB or 1 TB.
Should You Buy the iPhone 18 Pro Instead?
The iPhone 18 Pro adds a variable-aperture main camera, a newer chip and longer battery life. They're genuine upgrades, but they come at a premium. If you're upgrading from an older phone, the iPhone 17 Pro already delivers a huge leap, and the money you save can go towards accessories or more storage.
